School gate is one belonging rail. For many dual-career households the faster one is downstairs: condo parent chats, playground regulars, and the neighbour who will take a parcel when the bus is late. r/askSingapore parents keep warning that the same chat can become free labour or clique politics if you do not set norms.

Pickup emergencies still need a written household plan — IS bus & pickup — not a hope that “someone in the chat” is free.

Norms that keep belonging from becoming unpaid care

Ask before assuming a neighbour can watch a child — swaps are opt-in.
Never post a helper’s passport / FIN / salary in the big chat.
Keep money talks (tuition, agency fees) in DMs.
One social hello ≠ a standing babysitting contract — use part-time sitters for paid care.
Pair the condo rail with one off-building rail so a move does not erase your friends — nationality groups or volunteering.

Dual-career note

If both adults travel, the condo chat is a backup SMS list, not your primary coverage product. Name the primary adult / helper / sitter first (dual-career spouse), then add two neighbours who have already said yes to a specific emergency scenario.
