Parent myths (EP never had ordinary CPF; Aussie-super pipe folklore): CPF withdrawal when leaving. This companion is the after renunciation closure checklist — status change first, Board process second.

Eligibility gate

StatusClosure path?
Still SC or PR (even living overseas)No full cash-out closure — ordinary member rules only
Ex-PR / ex-SC after ICA renunciation / loss completedEligible to close and transfer to a Board-registered bank account
EP / S Pass only (never PR)Usually nothing to close — you were outside ordinary CPF

REP expiry is immigration mobility, not a CPF button — REP.

Closure sequence (orientation)

  1. Finish ICA renunciation / loss of PR or citizenship
  2. Prefer applying before you leave Singapore (Singpass + bank letter path is cleaner)
  3. Ensure a Singapore bank account is registered with CPF Board for disbursement
  4. Apply online (or Form CPF-CA / mission certification if already abroad)
  5. Budget about ~12 weeks average processing — verify live; thorough checks before disbursement
  6. After funds hit the bank, move money under receiving-country tax / retirement rules yourself — no CPF→super / 401k direct pipe

Before you renounce for the cash

Model MediShield / housing / future return options that vanish with PR. Returning ex-SC/PR can face refund-with-interest obligations for amounts previously withdrawn — read live Important Notes on the closure form. Nomination / estate while the account still exists: wills & CPF nomination. Exit cash map: leaving costs.

Decision rule

Not SC/PR → then close → then bank → then foreign retirement product (optional). Do not renounce on Reddit timelines without modelling the non-cash losses of PR.
