PR rejected: appeal, reapply, and updating a pending file

Short answer: ICA gives no public scorecard. Appeal only via the official e-Service; reapply when your profile actually changed. Long “pending” waits are not a positive signal.

What it does publish is how to appeal, how to check status, and that a fresh application only makes sense when your circumstances have actually changed.

Pending is not approval (or rejection)

ICA’s published guidance: applications are generally processed within 6 months when documents are in order; some take longer. Forum waits of 12–27 months are common anecdotes — longer waiting is not a positive signal.

Check status via MyICA (Singpass) or the e-Service with reference ID + FIN/UIN. Outcomes arrive by email (or post for older submissions before 26 June 2024).

Material changes while pending

Salary jump, new employer, marriage, birth, property purchase, completed degree — Reddit’s advice to “just email ICA_PR@…” is folklore. Prefer the upload channel inside the live application when ICA has opened it; otherwise write to ICA with your application reference and attach evidence. Do not invent a second concurrent PR application.

Changing jobs mid-pending is a common anxiety. Update ICA when the change is real; do not stall a career solely for superstition — but do not ghost the file either.

If you are rejected

ICA does not explain individual refusals in public FAQs. Published assessment themes still apply on appeal and re-apply: family ties to Singaporeans, economic contributions, qualifications, age, family profile, length of residency, ability to integrate, and commitment to sinking roots.

Official appeal path (e-Service only)

You may appeal a rejected SC / PR / LTVP application through ICA’s dedicated e-Service.

• Who submits: the original sponsor with Singpass; if there was no sponsor, the main applicant
• Non-Singpass original applications: use the same email as the first filing
• ICA states it does not accept appeals in person, by email, or by post
• Pending applications: wait for outcome — do not use the appeal e-Service as a status nudge

Each appeal is assessed on its own merits; processing times vary; outcome by email (and online status).

Fresh re-application

ask.gov.sg’s ICA answer: if unsuccessful, consider a fresh online application when circumstances change. Community folklore about a hard six-month cooldown is common; verify any cooling-off language on your rejection letter / live ICA pages — do not treat Reddit as the clock.

Re-apply only when something material moved:

• Sustained higher fixed salary / clearer economic contribution
• Longer residency or stronger family profile (marriage length, SC/PR children, local schooling)
• Credentials completed (degree conferred, not “almost done”)
• Documented community roots that were missing the first time

Identical documents six weeks later waste fees (non-refundable S$100 per application at submission) and calendar years of anxiety. Agencies cannot buy an outcome — ICA explicitly disclaims commercial “PR specialists.”

Spouse / local-sponsorship refusals

Local-sponsor threads (citizen or PR sponsoring a spouse) often cite short marriage length, thin shared roots, or sponsor income stories. Length of marriage and household stability show up constantly in peer anecdotes; they are not published pass/fail thresholds. Plan a re-file around real life changes (second child, property, years of cohabitation), not calendar superstition about “apply in January.”

NS still belongs in the decision

Rejection does not erase the need to model National Service before the next try that includes sons. Read citizenship & NS, NS Exit Permit, and PR strategy before you treat try #3 as inevitable.

After approval later
