Spouse LTVP renewal and the PMLA Letter of Eligibility

The "do I need to do PMLA again to renew?" threads on r/askSingapore mash three separate things into one button: the pre-marriage assessment, the first LTVP, and the renewal. They sit on different rails and they don't substitute for each other. The product chooser and the PMLA basics are on spouse LTVP + PMLA. This page is the narrower layer underneath: how long the Letter of Eligibility stays usable, and how the renewal clock actually runs.

The Letter of Eligibility and its one-year window

If you're a Singapore citizen marrying a non-resident and the PMLA comes back positive, ICA issues an LLE. It's good for 1 year, and what it buys you is the right to file an LTVP after the marriage with that assessment already behind you.

It's worth being precise about what it isn't, because this is where the threads go wrong. An LLE is not an LTVP. It carries no work rights, it is not a promise of PR, and it is not a renewal voucher for an LTVP you already hold. People reach for it at renewal time because it's the most official-looking piece of paper in the folder, and it does nothing there.

Let the year lapse and you go back to ICA's live PMLA path to re-assess or re-file. Don't build a plan around the line you'll see repeated that an expired LLE still speeds you to 6 weeks; that isn't a published rule, it's someone's good luck being retold.

One more boundary: PMLA is SC-only. If the sponsor is a PR rather than a citizen, none of the PMLA folklore applies to you in the first place. You go straight down the published spouse-of-PR LTVP lane.

Renewing an LTVP you already hold

Once there's a spouse LTVP in hand, renewal is its own e-Service with its own dates, and the one that matters is this: file at least 3 months before the current LTVP expires.

The reason that lead time is real is what happens next. The new validity runs from issuance, after the issuance fee is paid, and leftover days on the old pass are not carried forward. So the renewal doesn't stack neatly onto the tail of the old pass the way people assume, and filing late doesn't buy you anything back.

Fees come from the same family as the first issue, and you should check them live before budgeting rather than trusting this page: S$45 submission, S$60 issuance, and S$30 MJV where it applies.

And no, PMLA doesn't come into it. PMLA is a pre-marriage assessment, and there is nothing pre-marriage about renewing the pass of someone you're already married to. The renewal is a different e-Service entirely.

The short version

Use the LLE inside the year after marriage to get the first LTVP. After that, renew on the LTVP e-Service at least 3 months out. Never treat PMLA as a renewal form. Who qualifies in the first place, and the wider chooser, stay on spouse LTVP + PMLA.
