Aged-parent LTVP: renewal clocks and sponsor change
Companion to aged-parent PR vs LTVP — renew at least 3 months early with no leftover validity carry-forward, notify ICA if the sponsor withdraws, and when another SC/PR may take over sponsorship.
r/askSingapore’s “Mum’s LTVP expires next month” threads confuse first issue, renewal, and what happens if the sponsoring child emigrates. Product chooser (SC-only aged-parent PR vs SC/PR parent LTVP) lives on aged parents PR vs LTVP. This companion is the renewal + sponsor-change layer for parent LTVP.
Parents-in-law are still not on the parent LTVP row — do not file under “parent” folklore.
Renewal clocks ICA publishes
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| When to file | At least 3 months before current LTVP expiry |
| New validity | Starts from issuance (after issuance fee) |
| Leftover days | Not carried forward onto the renewed pass |
| Fees (verify live) | Same family as first issue: S$45 submission · S$60 issuance · S$30 MJV if applicable |
| Processing | Most within ~6 weeks when documents are in order; some longer |
Sponsor login: if the SC/PR child is 21+, that child sponsors via Singpass. If the child is under 21, a local SC/PR sponsor aged 21+ is required — same shape as first issue on ICA’s parent LTVP page.
Sponsor withdraws / wants out
ICA’s published LTVP terms (verify live PDF) are clearer than forum panic:
- The LTVP is issued on the basis of a local sponsor.
- If the sponsor intends to withdraw sponsorship of renewals, you must notify ICA.
- Another SC or PR may sponsor, subject to ICA’s approval.
- A sponsor generally cannot unilaterally cancel the LTVP without the holder’s consent — ICA expects both consents to cancel — and ICA may still cancel under the Immigration Regulations at its discretion.
Do not assume Mum’s pass silently survives after the sponsoring child leaves Singapore, renounces PR, or dies. Treat sponsor loss as a same-week ICA contact + backup-sponsor conversation, not a “finish the year then renew” problem.
Medical / housing realism still applies
Renewal does not create subsidised citizen healthcare or HDB purchase rights. Re-check insurance and caregiver capacity before you treat another year of LTVP as free — health insurance. If the household’s plan is exit, run the leaving playbook for the parent’s stay rail too.
Aged-parent PR (SC sponsor only) remains a separate discretionary file — see the parent chooser guide. Rejections and appeals sit on ICA’s appeal rails, not agent WhatsApp.
Decision rule
Diary renewal ≥3 months out → no leftover-validity myth → notify ICA early if the sponsor cannot continue → line up another SC/PR only with ICA approval. Parent product chooser stays on aged parents PR vs LTVP.
