Singapore Citizenship Journey (SCJ) after IPA

What happens after citizenship In-Principle Approval — SC Journey Portal day-3 login, e-Journey, Community Sharing Session and Experiential Visit slots, foreign-citizenship renunciation, ICA registration, and the welcome ceremony.

r/askSingapore’s post-IPA threads panic about full SEV calendars, CSS once a month, and whether citizenship is “done” when the email lands. It is not. In-Principle Approval starts a project. Applicants aged 16–60 must finish the mandatory Singapore Citizenship Journey (SCJ) before ICA completes citizenship. Portal day-3 and booking hygiene: SCJ SEV / CSS booking.

Eligibility floors, fees, and “should I apply” live on citizenship application. This guide is the after IPA lane.

Stage map (ICA roadmap)

ICA’s citizenship roadmap treats post-IPA work as roughly a ~2-month orientation (your IPA letter still wins if clocks differ):

StageWhat you do
IPA landsDownload the IPA letter; you are not yet a citizen
SC Journey PortalLog in 3 days after IPA issuance
e-Journey + docsBiodata / family / qualifications / employment / residency; upload supporting docs
SessionsBook Singapore Experiential Visit (SEV) and Community Sharing Session (CSS)
Renunciation prepIf 21+ and required: prepare foreign-citizenship renunciation with the other country
RegistrationReport to ICA Building on the scheduled appointment with the annex documents
CeremonyUsually 3–6 months after registration — GRC/SMC invite; certificate presented there

Portal clocks peers miss

ICA’s roadmap publishes tight e-Journey hygiene:

  1. Up to 7 days to fill particulars and upload documents after you start that step.
  2. Then up to another 7 days to review accuracy, submit, and pay.
  3. Budget ~90 minutes per individual application for the portal work — family filings multiply.

Portal login is 3 working days after IPA — deep dive: SCJ booking after IPA. Do not wait for “more SEV slots next month” without a backup plan. Peers with packed calendars book the inconvenient slot first, then use the portal’s change flow if a better session appears — or use ICA’s SCJ contact path named in your IPA pack. Your IPA validity / instructions override Reddit.

Renunciation and NS — still on the critical path

SCJ sessions do not waive home-country renunciation or NS literacy:

  • Adults (21+) who must drop a prior nationality should start foreign-authority processes early enough to meet the registration annex — dual-status folklore dies at the ICA counter.
  • Male applicants: read citizenship & NS before you treat pink IC day as the finish line.
  • Minors who already hold SC by descent/registration face a different adult clock — ORAL at 21 — not SCJ CSS booking.

After registration

You are a citizen when ICA completes registration formalities — not when the constituency welcome event is scheduled. Still update Singpass, banks, employer HR, and eCOA if the pink IC address differs. The ceremony is the civic marker where the certificate is typically presented; missing the party does not un-citizen you, but keep the invite.

Decision rule

The day IPA arrives, diary portal day +3, book SEV + CSS before the calendar fills, run e-Journey inside the published 7+7-day hygiene, and parallel-path foreign renunciation docs for the ICA Building appointment. Treat agencies selling “SCJ fast-track” as noise — ICA already published the roadmap.
