EP salary and occupation changes: notify MOM

Employers must notify MOM before lowering EP salary, use SAT to re-qualify, protect DP/LTVP privileges, and update occupation — plus related-company transfer vs job-change.

Short answer: Address/mobile updates are a 5-day pass-holder clock. Salary and occupation updates are mostly employer clocks — and a salary cut can yank the family’s DP/LTVP. Do not treat a quiet payroll change as invisible to MOM.

This guide sits beside address / passport / mobile notify. Job hops to an unrelated employer stay on changing jobs on EP.

Lowering salary — the high-risk path

MOM’s notify page:

RuleDetail
Who notifiesEmployer
TimingSubmit at least 1 month before the intended lower-salary date
Qualifying testRevised salary must still qualify for the current pass — run SAT
If it failsCancel the pass and apply for a new pass the person can hold
Family cascadeIf revised salary fails DP/LTVP privilege criteria, MOM revokes existing DP/LTVP tied to the pass

r/askSingapore salary↔NOA mismatches during renewal are a different (Next-owned) theatre. The living rule while the pass is active: declared MOM salary is a floor HR must honour, and reductions need the formal notify — not a handshake.

Raising salary

  • Raise alone: MOM does not require immediate notification; indicate the change at EP renewal.
  • Raise → dependants: Pass holders who increase salary must notify MOM before applying for dependant privileges.

Package math for how fixed monthly salary is defined still lives on decoding the offer and salary package decoding.

Occupation change

Employer path:

  1. Submit the occupation-update request in MOM’s channel.
  2. Pick the closest match from MOM’s A–Z standard occupations.
  3. Upload professional-body support letters when the occupation requires them.
  4. Expect email outcome within about 3 weeks.

If the original EP needed Shortage Occupation List (C5) COMPASS points, MOM may contact the employer before any fresh application for re-assessment — do not silently refile.

ScenarioWhat MOM expects
Branch / subsidiary / affiliateRelated company files a new EP (no MyCareersFuture ad). Current employer cancels before the new pass can be issued.
Unrelated new employerFull job-change playbook — resign after IPA.
Merger / entity change / new UENDifferent “change in business entity” notify — not a personal transfer letter.

Candidate checklist (what to ask HR in writing)

  1. Will this payroll change be filed as a MOM salary notify, and on what date?
  2. Does the revised fixed monthly salary still clear SAT at my age / sector band?
  3. Are any DP / LTVP holders on my pass — and have you checked privilege criteria?
  4. Is this an occupation rename, a COMPASS-sensitive C5 role, or a related-company move?
  5. Will IRAS / payroll docs (IR8A, payslips) stay consistent with what MOM sees?

Next: keep address/passport clocks clean, and treat COMPASS as living rules if HR is re-benchmarking salary for renewal year. Mid-term cuts that collide with renewal NOA asks: EP renewal NOA packaging.

Questions, answered

Does my employer need to tell MOM if they cut my EP salary?
Yes. MOM requires the employer to notify a salary reduction at least one month before the intended date. The revised salary must still qualify for the EP — use the Self-Assessment Tool. If it no longer qualifies, cancel and reapply on a pass the candidate can hold.
What happens to my family’s DP if my salary is lowered?
If the revised salary fails MOM’s criteria for DP/LTVP privileges, MOM will revoke existing DP/LTVP tied to the work pass. Treat salary cuts as a household immigration event, not only a payroll line.
Do raises need immediate MOM notification?
Not for a raise alone — MOM says you can indicate the higher salary at EP renewal. Exception: notify before applying for dependant privileges after a salary increase.
My title changed but salary did not — is that a notify?
Occupation changes are an employer request to MOM (standard occupation list; some roles need professional-body letters). Outcome email within about three weeks. Shortage Occupation List (C5) cases may need MOM contact before a fresh COMPASS re-assessment.
Is an internal transfer to a sister company just a salary notify?
No. Related-company moves need a new EP application by the related entity, then cancel the old pass before the new one can be issued — see the changing-jobs guide.
Does a salary cut still need SAT / COMPASS checks if I stay above the EP floor?
Yes. Clearing the published EP qualifying salary is necessary but not enough. MOM still expects the revised package to qualify for the pass you hold — employers use the Self-Assessment Tool, and firm/COMPASS factors can still fail after a cut. If SAT fails, cancel and reapply on a pass that fits rather than hoping a quiet payroll drop is invisible.
Who submits EP salary or occupation notifies — me or my employer?
The employer (or authorised agent) submits salary reductions and occupation updates. Pass holders own address, passport, and mobile clocks separately. If HR stalls on a cut or title change, escalate in writing — you cannot self-file those employer notifies on EP Online.
