Notify MOM of EP changes: address, passport, mobile

EP holders must update residential address or mobile within 5 days, clear FWTES landlord blockers, and update passport particulars before automated immigration gates work again.

Short answer: Update residential address or mobile within 5 days in EP eService (pass holder or employer). Private-condo updates often need the landlord’s FWTES “allow pass holder” tick first. Renewed passports must be updated in eService before you rely on automated gates.

r/askSingapore keeps rediscovering the same three MOM clocks: 5 days to update residential address or mobile, FWTES landlord consent blocking private-condo declarations, and passport renewals that break automated immigration until EP eService catches up. This is the pass-holder admin guide — not landlord law, not bank KYC.

Residential address or mobile — 5-day clock

MOM’s notify-of-changes page is blunt: the pass holder or employer must update residential address or mobile number within 5 days of the change. Miss it and the EP holder may be penalised.

StepDetail
1Confirm the new address meets housing rules (lawful stay, occupancy caps)
2Log in to EP eService and update address / mobile
3Update is immediate — print the acknowledgement and keep it with the pass card

Hotel / illegal short-let “addresses” are how people start the five-day clock with nowhere legal to declare. Prefer a serviced apartment or a proper lease you can actually register — see short-term vs long-term.

FWTES — when the landlord holds the key

Private residential property (PRP) owners who rent for the first time must complete a one-time declaration in Foreign Worker Tenant Enquiry Service (FWTES) so the unit is available for foreign-employee address registration. Until they tick “allow pass holder declarations,” EP eService / OFWAS can refuse your update even though you are within the five-day window.

Landlord script that works in practice (no mystery links):

  1. Go to mom.gov.sg → FWTES
  2. Log in with Singpass
  3. Select the property → declare it available for foreign worker address registration → submit

If the owner cannot log in, MOM’s feedback forms cover owner consent assistance and blocked address cases (agents can sometimes submit on behalf). Escalating with TA + property-tax proof beats arguing in WhatsApp.

Passport number / expiry — auto-gates need 4 working days

Renewed your passport overseas and assumed ICA would “just know”? EP holders update passport number and expiry instantly in EP eService (written requests are no longer accepted). MOM states you can use automated gates at local checkpoints only 4 working days after the update. Manual lanes still work — but do not leave the update until the airport queue.

Other particulars (name, nationality, marital status, DOB, etc.) use the online personal-particulars request with supporting docs — MOM emails outcomes within about 7 working days.

What this guide is not

Travel / FWTES / passport-renewal edges: notify MOM address / passport edges.

Next: keep relocation checklist and banking address trails consistent with MOM — mismatched KYC addresses are a separate headache.

Questions, answered

How many days do I have to update my EP residential address with MOM?
MOM’s notify-of-changes page requires the pass holder or employer to update residential address or mobile number within five days of the change. Keep the EP eService acknowledgement.
Can I register a hotel or Airbnb as my EP residential address?
Risky and often refused. Use a lawful stay you can actually declare — typically a serviced apartment or proper lease. Illegal short-lets and hotel “addresses” commonly fail FWTES / eService checks and still start the five-day clock.
My condo landlord will not approve FWTES — what happens?
Private residential landlords who rent for the first time must declare in FWTES that the unit allows foreign-employee address registration. Until they do, EP eService / OFWAS can block your update even if you are still inside the five-day window — escalate with the landlord or agent in writing.
I renewed my passport — do I need to update MOM before flying?
Yes. Update passport particulars in EP eService after renewal. Automated immigration gates and travel can fail when the passport number on the pass file is stale — do not wait until the airport queue.
Is notifying MOM of address changes the same as ICA address update for PR?
No. EP / S Pass address and mobile updates run through MOM EP eService (and FWTES/OFWAS where relevant). Blue NRIC address changes are an ICA Identity Card process — different agency, different form.
