Graduate LTVP after a Singapore degree: stay to job-hunt

ICA’s Long-Term Visit Pass for foreign IHL graduates — fees, ~6-week processing, no automatic work rights, LOC myths vs spouse LTVP, and when to file after EP cancel or Student’s Pass expiry.

Reddit’s graduate threads mix three different LTVPs into one word. The pass ICA issues so a foreign graduate of an eligible Singapore institute of higher learning can stay and seek employment is a stay facility — not a work pass, and not the spouse/parent LTVP that sometimes pairs with a Letter of Consent. Confirm your school is on ICA’s IHL list, then read renewal / runway edges on graduate LTVP IHL & renewal.

What this LTVP is for

TopicReality
PurposeRemain in Singapore after graduation (or between jobs, if ICA accepts your fact pattern) while you hunt for sponsored work
WorkNo. Starting paid work needs an employer-sponsored EP / S Pass / Work Permit (or another MOM path that actually authorises work)
LOC confusionSpouse / unmarried-child LTVPs of SC/PR may use PLOC / LOCplaybook. Graduate-seeking-employment LTVP is a different category — do not tell F&B managers you “have LOC” because a poly friend said so
Tuition GrantCompleting a bond still needs authorised work years — LTVP days do not count as EP employment

Peers report ~one year of stay when approved; treat duration and renewability as what your approval letter says, not forum folklore about “automatic conversion.”

Fees and processing (published)

StageAs published on ICA’s graduate LTVP page

Timing — Student’s Pass end vs EP cancel

Fresh graduates

Apply when your Student’s Pass / graduation paperwork supports the ICA checklist. Do not assume HR or the university “auto-converts” you — file and watch the clock so you do not overstay into a Special Pass mess.

After losing an EP (local-grad path)

r/askSingapore’s recurring question: Can I apply for graduate LTVP while still on EP notice, or only after STVP?

Published ICA pages do not give a neat calendar for every ex-EP graduate. Anecdotes include ICA advising case-by-case timing and asking for a termination / explanation letter. Safer operating procedure:

  1. Ask HR in writing to request the longest STVP available on EP cancel (up to 90 days per MOM cancel guidance) — they cannot usually add it after the fact. See between jobs / STVP and retrenchment.
  2. Call or write ICA with your graduation year, Tuition Grant status, and EP cancel date — get the filing window in writing for your file.
  3. Do not work on STVP or LTVP while “waiting for IPA.” IPA ≠ issued pass.

Job hunt realism

LTVP helps you stay for in-person interviews. It does not:

  • Remove COMPASS / qualifying-salary screens for EP
  • Replace employer sponsorship
  • Let you freelancing-bridge rent (side-income rules are Move-pillar; graduate LTVP still is not a freelance licence)

If cash runway is short, switch early to the leaving playbook rather than burning deposits while hoping for a miracle week-12 offer.

Decision rule

Use graduate LTVP as a bridge, not a career plan. Confirm work rights from MOM’s live pages for your LTVP category before you accept any paid shift — and treat career pivots as the path back onto an EP.
